A rivalry that if we're being honest, has become somewhat tame in recent years, the newest edition of the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens is going to be anything but.
A litany of new faces on both teams are sure to bring back old-school physicality, and one of those names is Steelers LB Patrick Queen.
Pittsburgh's prize signing of the offseason, Queen was drafted by the Ravens, but ultimately, they decided to let him walk in the offseason.
It's safe to say he took that personally:
Patrick Queen Looking To Get Back At Baltimore
"I wasn’t wanted back,” Queen said when asked about facing his old team for the first time. "I didn’t get the offer back. It was definitely kind of upsetting, you know, being there for four years and the bond that you grow with your teammates…
"…You put your body on the line every single time that you go out there even when you can barely move your leg or whatever the injury may have been… So I definitely did feel a certain type of way after the whole situation, but I’m over it now."
Queen signed a franchise record deal for free agents this offseason, and after a bit of a slow start, he's found his stride in the middle of the Steelers' defense. The signal caller in the front seven, Queen has been what the Steelers hoped for and then some in his inaugural campaign in Pittsburgh.
Queen would go on to say that he has not spoken to Ravens GM Eric DeCosta, or HC John Harbaugh since he signed with the Steelers, adding an extra layer to what is sure to be a passionate set of pre-game warmups.
"Two places that know how to play great football, physical football, bloody football, A whole lot of trash talk. A whole lot of hitting. That's basically it," said Queen when asked about what the rivalry means. "It's not going to be a lot of trick stuff going on. It's going to be football plays. We are going to line up and see who lasts the longest. We understand what type of football is going to be played…
"…Practice is going to be more intense. Meetings are going to be more intense. Everybody is going to be locked in. Coaches are going to have the game plan and lay it down. The first thing they start off with is how physical it is in the AFC North and it comes down to these two teams winning the division. Everybody understands their role in this rivalry."
