NFL insider predicts that the Pittsburgh Steelers won't make a mistake at a key position in first round of the 2025 NFL Draft

In case you haven't heard yet, this year's quarterback draft is not a great one.

And that's especially true after Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders go off the board, which projects to be much earlier than the Pittsburgh Steelers' selection.

So, drafting a quarterback at 21, barring a fall for the ages from one of the aforementioned signal callers seems like a mistake.

One that Adam Schefter of ESPN doesn't see the Steelers making…

Adam Schefter doesn't see Steelers drafting a QB in round one of 2025 NFL Draft

“I can’t imagine, nor could they, that Shedeur Sanders would somehow slip that far. Let me say for the record right now, despite speculation to the contrary, I will be surprised if the Pittsburgh Steelers take a quarterback in Round 1," said Schefter on Monday. "I don’t think they’re drafting a quarterback in Round 1. That’s me based on conversations with a lot of different people.”

Recently there has been a lot of talk about the Steelers taking a quarterback in round one. Specifically, former Alabama Crimson Tide signal caller Jalen Milroe…

“I talked to an NFL exec last night, very well-connected, and this is a keep your head on a swivel, Aaron Rodgers. I’m told the Steelers really like Jalen Milroe, 21st pick, first round. So if Aaron signs with Pittsburgh, it’s going to become Kirk Cousins,” Cowherd said on FS1’s “The Herd.” “They’re taking a quarterback. If the 21st pick, Milroe’s not taken, Pittsburgh is leaning now and taking him.”

So there seems to be a discrepancy here. The man who knows exactly what they will do, or at least has an idea of what they will do is Mike Tomlin, however. According to him, all options are on the table, including making a selection in round one at quarterback…

“I wouldn’t close the door on any component of acquisition at that position," Tomlin told me on Monday.

So what happens is anyone's guess. The Steelers know they need to find their next franchise signal caller. Omar Khan admitted that the situation is less than ideal, but is the draft the answer? Probably not this year.

"It's not easy. It's not ideal," Khan said Monday at the NFL's Annual Meetings. "I'll put it that way. We addressed it last year. We're addressing it this year. At some point, we have to find a long-term solution. I'll say that might happen this year. It could happen next year, but in the meantime, we're going to keep doing whatever we can to win a championship this year."
