Steelers named prime candidate to trade back in round one of 2025 NFL Draft
"Because they traded the two for DK [Metcalf], they don't have a two," NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah said Monday on his Move the Sticks podcast. "They pick 21st and then next pick is 83rd. If somebody is interested and wants to come up for a quarterback, if they're not comfortable taking a quarterback there, if it's Jason Dart, they might be a prime candidate to say, 'Hey, Cleveland, the Giants, whichever of you guys don't take quarterbacks at the top, you wanna come back in and still get one? We're open for business and we'll go ahead and get some of those picks in that second-round range that we don't currently possess."
This year's draft is devoid of talent. That much is certain. You talk to teams that have less than double-digit first-round grades when it comes to prospects. So if you're the Steelers and Emeka Egbuka, Kenneth Grant, and Walter Nolen are off the board, you might as well stack your draft capital.
But there is a way the Steelers could make a first-round pick and a second-round pick in three weeks. How? Well by trading George Pickens of course, even if that seems more unlikely by the day.
“You need more than one receiver in this league, and we're fortunate we have George and Calvin (Austin) and excited about what Roman (Wilson) is going to be able to do for us," said GM Omar Khan at the Steelers owners meetings on Monday.
So in all likelihood, if the Steelers are going to acquire a second-round pick in this years draft, it's going to mean parting ways with their first-round pick, which may not be such a bad idea in this draft climate.
