Three first-round shockers that the Pittsburgh Steelers could end up selecting on night one of the 2025 NFL Draft
Unlike recent years, the Pittsburgh Steelers draft is wide open. Unlike recent years, the Pittsburgh Steelers draft is wide open.
With so many needs at a multitude of positions, Pittsburgh has to address question marks at the QB and RB positions, along with the defensive line.
And while there are plenty of suitable candidates who are consensus round one picks at those positions, here are three that would turn some heads if Pittsburgh were to take them on night one…
DL Darius Alexander, Toledo
Alexander is currently the 55th player on the A to Z Sports consensus board and the 52nd in the mock draft database. He's behind other players who have the interest of the Steelers like Derrick Harmon, but he did recently meet with the team, and he has a ton of the traits they want and need from their interior players.
He was a force to be reckoned with at the Senior Bowl, where Mike Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers coaching staff first got eyes on him, followed up by their eventual meetings with Alexander.
So it would be a bit of a stretch, but a real possibility.
RB Quinshon Judkins, OSU
Quinshon Judkins is currently slated between the 50s and 70s on consensus boards. Widely thought of as a day two selection, the Steelers will likely see him as a better Najee Harris.
He possesses some of the tangible that Harris has, including power, size, and the ability to break tackles, but he's a much better athlete with home run potential that Harris never showed in Pittsburgh.
Omarion Hampton and even his former teammate TreVeyon Henderson are likely higher on the Steelers board, but if those two backs are gone at 21, Judkins is a real possibility given the team's need for a starting back.
QB Jalen Milroe, Alabama
There might not be a more polarizing prospect in the class than Jalen Milroe. Currently, he's viewed as around the 40th best player in the class on consensus boards, but he has the makings of both a first overall pick and a day three dart throw.
His tangibles of incredible speed and arm talent, mixed with elite intangibles of leadership, character, and integrity, scream number one overall selection.
But his mechanics, scattershot accuracy, processing, and QB instincts are required of a developmental player.
So, to see him go round to the Steelers would be a head-scratcher, but it is also very plausible given their ties to him.
