The Pittsburgh Steelers are trimming their roster to 53 players as we speak.

With a hard deadline of Tuesday, August 29 at 4:00 pm ET, the cuts have already been rolling in with more to come.

But just because they aren't on the active roster, doesn't mean they aren't a part of the Steelers. So here's the latest look at current signings, with a background on the rules of NFL practice squads, and a DT signing that Pittsburgh has to be over the moon about.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2023 Practice Squad Signings:

Practice Squad Rules:

The practice squad can feature six veteran players with no limit on their number of accrued seasons in the NFL. There is no restriction on the number of players with no accrued seasons, but a maximum of 10 players with two or fewer accrued seasons can be signed to the practice squad.

Up to two practice squad players can be activated on gameday without being elevated to the main roster. A single player can be activated three times a season but would need to be signed to the active roster beyond that.

Teams can also protect players from being signed off the practice squad by another team. Up to four players can be designated for such protection on the Tuesday of each week.

Oh no Fehoko

The Steelers released DT Breiden Fehoko on cutdown day, but they dodged a bullet this morning (Aug 30) when he cleared waivers and signed with the practice squad. Fehoko had a key role this preseason as a "dirty-work" player and will be a great depth piece in the Steelers eight-man DL rotation if need be.
