For all the rumors and reports surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers' plan at QB in 2025, the team quietly stated their preference a while back.
An option that may leave some scratching their head given the way the season ended, Pittsburgh is the picture of stability in the NFL, and they will likely be looking to keep it that way.
Steelers general manager Omar Khan's latest comments prove that…
Steelers Want to re-sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields
"I think ideally, [We would] like to sign one of the guys that we had last year, said Khan on Tuesday at the NFL Combine. "But the reality is they're both free agents, so until we get one of those guys under contract, you know, all options are on the table…
"… It was a positive experience with all three of those quarterbacks. So, you know, I don't know how realistic it is that all three will be back, but you know, if there's an opportunity for there to be a combination of, you know, that a couple of those guys will be back, we'll be happy with that."
The comments echo the sentiments of Art Rooney around the time of last month's Senior Bowl, where he stated that the team would prefer at least one of Justin Fields or Russell Wilson back in the Black and Gold.
"After the coaching staff is in place, the priority will be the quarterback position for sure. We have some decisions to make there and I thought both Russ and Justin showed promise in certain stretches during the season, and I think they're both capable of being starters in this league. So, we have decisions and they have decisions too…
"…I think both of them see themselves as starters and I don't know that they wanna share the same job again next year. So, I would say most likely we probably don't wind up bringing them both back."
As far as who is in the pole position, to quote Mike Tomlin? Well, it seems that the majority of the Steelers staff prefers Justin Fields, but the two guys who call the shots, (Mike Tomlin & Art Rooney) have their favorite and that's Russell Wilson.
Time will tell which one, or if either are back in 2025.
