It's hard to win in the NFL when you have a great QB. (See the Kansas City Chiefs).

But when you are on to a backup, especially one that has yet to perform at a functional level, winning is nearly impossible.

It seems Pittsburgh is realizing that, although they're dipping their toe in the pool rather than Jumping in the deep end when it comes to fixing it:

Pickett is Out

To no one's surprise, Pickett has already been ruled out for Saturday's game in Indianapolis, which is likely to continue through the calendar year per a recent report.

That means Mitch Trubisky is in line to start again:

MVP Mitch?

“I thought Mitch picked up his play as the game wore on,” Tomlin told reporters on Monday. “I thought it’s a reasonable expectation for him to be even better because of that experience and because of the experience of a full week’s prep this week in preparation for the performance: In-helmet reps, full-speed reps, things of that nature. Excited about that component of it.”

But while Coach T may be excited about Trubisky's projection this week, how long it lasts is still up in the air:

Christmas Calls for Rudolph?

"Mason will get an opportunity to get some reps, certainly," Tomlin told reporters on Monday. "You don't get an opportunity to get a lot of that, particularly when you're at the three spot. When you're at the two spot and you have a full week, certainly, Last week there were a limited amount of reps for all parties involved, and so he certainly will get more opportunity this week from a preparation standpoint."

So it seems that Coach T has acknowledged that the Steelers have a QB problem, and he is addressing it by allowing the offensive coordinator(s) to give Mason Rudolph more first-team reps, but he has no chance of starting. (At least not on Saturday).

That state of affairs should tell you all you need to know about Pittsburgh's QB situation, but more importantly, the massive mistake they made in the offseason.
