There has been a lot of smoke, hearsay, and rumors regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers QB situation in 2025.
But deep down, the Steelers and their fans had to know that their starter in 2025, was going to be one that was on the team in 2024.
And following the ultimate convention of information known as the NFL Combine, that has become increasingly clear…
Steelers 2025 Starter to be Russell Wilson or Justin Fields
“Steelers next quarterback — Russell Wilson or Justin Fields,” Schefter told Pardon My Take. “One of them will be back. One of them I expect will be back.”
The question that the Steelers themselves, much less fans don't have the answer to yet, is who will be the one of Wilson and Fields that returns. We know that Wilson still has internal support despite his five-game losing skid.
But given the potential of Fields on a cheaper deal, at 10 years Wilson's junior and with a dual threat capability that now eludes Wilson's skillset, it's starting to become clear that Fields may have the leg up…
One of the hottest topics around the combine last week was what the Pittsburgh Steelers will do at QB for 2025. Both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are set to become free agents, and the team is only expected to attempt to retain one of the two. Nearly everyone in Indianapolis believes the team prefers to extend Fields and let Wilson walk. But they also think signing Fields to a new deal won't prevent the Steelers from doing their homework on the QBs in this year's draft class. It's not out of the question that the Steelers retain Fields and draft a QB with a valuable pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Now, it has to be noted that this is all hypothesizing. Fields wants to test the market, and when the legal tampering period begins on Monday, March 10th, and the bullets start flying per se, anything can happen.
Not to mention, we know the Steelers will have competition for the services of both Fields and Wilson. They have the right to re-sign one of them first, but it doesn't mean either one is guaranteed a spot, even if that's what the Steelers want.
