There's no profession in the world quite like coaching in college football or the NFL

For some, it may take years if not decades before they even sniff a shot at leading a Division One program or NFL franchise.

But for former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Ryan Switzer, it took less than 24 months:

Ryan Switzer named interim HC At Tulsa

Switzer just celebrated his 30th birthday earlier this month and took a WR coaching job at Tulsa in 2023. After it became clear that the team would part ways with HC Kevin Wilson, Switzer was named the interim HC of a 3-8 Tulsa squad.

A fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, Switzer enjoyed the best success of his career in the black and gold, earning career highs in receptions, receiving yards, and TDs as a member of the Steelers in 2018.

A dynamic returner and slot WR during his time in college, Switzer was always going to find success in his football ventures, but to be named an HC just months into his career as a coach is truly remarkable.

Switzer was also serving as the recruiting coordinator for Tulsa, so between his status as a former player and his foothold in the recruiting circuit, the decision-makers at Tulsa would be wise to take off the interim role and name him the full-time HC come season's end.
