The rumors became a reality last week, however, when Sanders visited the Steelers at their facility for a day on the South Side.
And according to Peter Schrager of ESPN, that meeting went swimmingly…
Steelers-Sanders visit goes very well
"He had a really good meeting with the Pittsburgh last week, and that lasted like five hours,” Schrager said on the Pat McAfee Show. “He met with Arthur Smith. He met with Mike Tomlin. He went around the facility. That, to me, seems like a good backstop. If worse comes to worse for Sheduer, 21 would be a really nice place for him to go. It would be a really good situation considering the weapons, the organization, the culture, the city.”
It has become increasingly clear that the Steelers and Shedeur Sanders have a mutual interest. Of course, if Sanders were to go second overall to the Cleveland Browns (unlikely) or even to the New Orleans Saints (more likely) Pittsburgh would be out of luck.
But if he escpes the top 10, don't expect Pittsburgh to just sit by and hope he falls to them at 21…
"If Shedeur Sanders does not go at nine, if he's still available at 10 or in the teens, watch out for the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21 for the potential to move up: ESPN insider Dan Graziano said earlier this week."They had him in for a visit late last week. They're still waiting on an answer from Aaron Rodgers, to whom they've had an offer out for some time. But they know that Aaron Rodgers is not gonna be the long-term answer at quarterback, even if he does sign there.”
So the writing is on the wall at this point. If Sanders is within striking range, Aaron Rodgers or not, Pittsburgh could make a play for Sanders whom Mike Tomlin is very fond of…
“I tend to trust where I get this information,” Ringer NFL Draft expert Todd McShay said on The McShay Show. “Mike Tomlin really likes Shedeur. If he’s there at 21, Shedeur could very well be a Pittsburgh Steeler.”
