Right or wrong, the Pittsburgh Steelers believe they are a Super Bowl contender.

It;s why they are pursuing Aaron Rodgers so heavily, and it's why they have gone all in around their defensive core.

But that shouldn't preclude them from finding their signal caller of the future, and according to Adam Schefter, if the board falls right, they could do just that….

Steelers to consider Shedeur Sanders in round one?

“I was of the mind that Pittsburgh was not taking a quarterback in Round 1,” Schefter said on his podcast. “I think the only quarterback that they would consider, me reading between the lines, would be Shedeur. But I can’t imagine he’s gonna slide to 21. Would Pittsburgh be willing to trade up to a certain point to go get Shedeur Sanders, if he gets past those other spots? If the Browns don’t take Shedeur Sanders at two, and if the Giants don’t take Shedeur Sanders at three, and that is the feel that I’m getting recently, where is Shedeur Sanders going…

“…I think the two spots that you look at today, three weeks out, and this is a fluid process, and it changes, but today, I’m looking at the New Orleans Saints at No. 9 and the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21, who never, ever would’ve thought Shedeur would ever slide to them. And he probably still won’t, but there was a time where we said Aaron Rodgers won’t slide to 23, he was gonna go number one, and he wound up sliding on draft day, all the way to number 23.”

Shedeur Sanders is a very polarizing player. He's as tough as nails, accurate, and can distribute the ball to all areas of the field. He has an energy that his teammates will gravitate towards and he is the son of one of the greatest players to ever play in the NFL.

He also has no elite trait. He doesn't wow you with his arm, is not overly athletic, and projects to be a relatively stationary target in the pocket. Not to mention he has rubbed more than a few people and teams the wrong way during his collegiate tenure and pre-draft process.

But if there was ever a quarterback who made sense for the Steelers. It's Sanders. He has the DNA, pedigree, and bloodline that a coach like Mike Tomlin covets.  We have already seen more than a few mock drafts put him in the Black and Gold, and if shakes out the way many think, it's a real possibility.
