T.J. Watt proved once again what Pittsburgh Steelers fans already know against the New York Giants…
He's the best defender in the world and might have an argument for being the best pound-for-pound player in the league.
The latest reveal from his pass-rushing duo Alex Highsmith only adds to the lore of #90 in black and gold:
Highsmith knew Watt was going to wreck shop
"I mean, he's what Coach Tomlin calls an A player, you know, an A player that's built for those moments," Highsmith said when asked about Watt after the game. "And I knew that play [was coming]. I saw that they had the tight end over me. And [when] I saw him [Watt], one on one, on an island. with that guy, [I thought] he's about to make a play, and he did, and he got the ball. So that's just what he does. That's why he's the best in the world. And so just, you know, an honor every single week to go to war with him. And just the rest of this team."
Now if you noticed the phrasing one on one, on an island with that guy, that was a subtle shot at Giants RT Jermaine Eluemunor, who went viral after the game for letting Watt earn two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery despite saying earlier in the week that he wanted "To face Watt on an island."
A classic case of careful what you wish for, Watt was a good sport after the game, but it's probably not smart to poke the bear, when the bear is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer.
"Oh, of course," Watt told the media after the game when asked if he heard Eluemunor's comments. "I mean, l have a lot of respect for every single player in the NFL. Everybody works hard, and I'm just trying to get my opportunities when I get 'em and make the most of 'em when they happen. But, it's not possible without scheme…
"..We've done a good job schematically of trying to create those one-on-ones along with the backend covering just long enough and the guys up front also chewing up blockers. So it's a team effort."
Lesson learned Eluemunor.
