On of the most famous sayings in the NFL is "Don't poke the bear."
A league dominated by high achievers, the best of the best find a way to keep their competitive edge even when everyone acknowledges their greatness.
But when given even a smidgen of external motivation, you better believe they will respond, and that's exactly what T.J. Watt did after some head-scratching comments from New York Giants OT Jermaine Eluemunor:
T.J. Watt Goes for 2 Sacks, Forced Fumble, Following "Island" Comments
"Oh, of course," Watt told the media after the game when asked if he heard Eluemunor's comments. "I mean, l have a lot of respect for every single player in the NFL. Everybody works hard, and I'm just trying to get my opportunities when I get 'em and make the most of 'em when they happen. But, it's not possible without scheme…
"..We've done a good job schematically of trying to create those one-on-ones along with the backend covering just long enough and the guys up front also chewing up blockers. So it's a team effort."
Watt's response both during and after the game followed up comments from Eluemunor during the week where he said he would welcome blocking Watt on an island:
"I love it. I've been telling you, I'm the most confident guy in this locker room," Elumenor told Giants reporters earlier in the week when asked about playing Watt. "I think you can see that through my play this year. I want to be on an island with him all day."
Well, J.J. Watt, T.J.'s brother wasn't as milk toast as his little brother, taking to social media to call out the comments, of which were frankly, asinine.
I'm sorry, I don't care how you confident you are, no one actually wants to be left one on one with Watt, hence the offensive attention he constantly receives. And to think that saying that in front of the media in a public setting is smart shows a lack of self awareness that is kind of appalling.
One of the most driven players in the league, comments like these might as well be blood in the water for a shark, with Watt showing when you come at the sack king, you better not miss.

He let the cat out of the bag.
