When the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Jaylen Warren as a UDFA last year, he was a long shot to make the roster.
But once the pads came on, Pittsburgh soon realized they found a steal.
And that has been recognized by the organization, but it doesn't mean Warren can just sit back, with Tomlin not letting him rest on his overachievement:
Mike Tomlin: "Exhaling is when we will have issues"
"Jaylen Warren was a guy who turned a lot of heads last year. He’s kind of this guy with this urgency to make the team, how have you seen him kind of transfer to the guy who’s now maybe honing things a little bit in a different way?" Asked a reporter
"I don't know that he's doing it in a different way, answered Tomlin. "He's still extremely urgent and highly competitive as you can see, in backs on backers. And that's probably the appropriate recipe. The minute he starts, you know, exhaling is when he and we are going to have major issues. I like the energy he’s bringing; he’s sustained it. He's got some experience to go along with it, and I think that's what you value."
And despite that parting shot from Mike Tomlin, I would imagine Warren doesn't need to be told to "Exhale."
The NFL will move on from first-round picks in the blink of an eye, much less undrafted free agents.
Warren has worked his way into a valuable role as the Steelers backup running back, displaying excellent pass protection, and a change of pace that was a jolt to the Steelers offense last year.
He's only doing more of the same so far in camp, somehow forgetting he's only 5'8" and facing off with much bigger LB's like Elandon Roberts or Kwon Alexander.
Warren has not only held his own in those competitions but has stacked a few pancakes on his plate this camp.
But as Coach T said, he had better continue that, or the only thing he will be stacking is boarding passes.

He’s going for it all
