What to Watch For
Joe Burrow vs. Steelers Defense
The Bengals might be 4-7, but it's far from Joe Burrow's fault. One of the best QBs in the league, he and Ja'Marr Chase are the only reasons the Bengals are even afloat in the AFC.
"If you look at the tape, he's MVP-caliber in terms of what he's doing for them," Tomlin said of Burrow. "I started first with the two Baltimore games because of the intimacy of divisional play. Man, I don't know how many touchdowns he threw in those two football games. I know [Ja'Marr] Chase himself had five. It's just kind of reflective of what he and they are capable of."
Joey Porter Jr. vs. Ja'Marr Chase
Chase was already in the running for the title of best WR in the league coming into this season, but he's hit another level in 2024. On pace to be only the third triple crown winner this century, Chase looks better than ever.
How the Steelers and more specifically, Joey Porter Jr. handle him will go a long way in determining the outcome of the game.
"We better be close to him, and then we better tackle [him after] the catch," Coach Tomlin said when asked about slowing down Chase. "It's as simple as that, if you're not close to him and he gets to speed, he's a problem. And so obviously, like I mentioned at the beginning, we better carry a full menu, some zone, some man. Regardless of whether you're in zone or man, you better have people close to him. You better pass them through zones. You better be thoughtful about the man component, all in an effort to challenge him at the catch point. And if you're unsuccessful in that endeavor, you better get him on the ground sooner rather than later. The longer he's on his feet, the more likelihood he's going to ring the scoreboard up, and that's just what the tape tells us."
