The Pittsburgh Steelers opened camp doing something few other franchises could do.
A roster brimming with talent and names, not one player on the 90-man roster started the season on the PUP or physically unable to perform list.
But following the first day of pads in Latrobe, the Steelers may have just lost one of the offseasons most promising rookies:
Cory Trice Jr. Goes Down with Non-Contact Leg Injury
Trice was off to a great start in camp after an excellent offseason that saw him make waves in organized team activities and minicamp. The long corner from Purdue fell to the seventh round of April's draft due to injury concerns that have seemingly been renewed:
You never want to speculate when these things occur in camp, but the tenor of the field was vastly different before and after Trice went down. After practice Mike Tomlin would describe the injury as a non-contact one, meaning the severity is likely high.
And to further cement the unfortunate circumstance for Trice, Pittsburgh immediately started looking for his replacement:
Neither of those players has the potential that Trice does, however. Being 6'3", nearly 200 pounds, and with relatively smooth hips that allow him to transition out of breaks, he has a dynamic skillset that he was showing off in camp:
So while we await the official diagnosis, we can only hope the young man can return to health quickly, and be just as competitive and athletic as he was before he left.
And his injury history is extensive, but Trice just turned 23 and was only a seventh-round pick. That means he's a low-risk, high-reward type of prospect that I'm willing to bet will contribute when he's back to full health.
Steelers’ Kenny Pickett just saved Matt Canada from more embarrassment
He had his back on this one
