Pittsburgh Steelers fans might be sick to their stomach after hearing recent comments from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback, who is a contender for the NFL MVP award this season, told Jason Kelce that he thought he was going to be drafted by Pittsburgh in 2020.
Hurts said he thought he was going to the Steelers and when he saw a Pennslyvania number calling him on draft night, he assumed it was Pittsburgh. Instead, it was the Eagles, a team that wasn't on Hurts' radar.
Here's the clip where Hurts talks about what went down on draft night.
The Eagles ended up selecting Hurts with the No. 53 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Pittsburgh passed on Hurts to take wide receiver Chase Claypool with the No. 48 overall selection.
Claypool was solid for the Steelers and he was just traded to the Chicago Bears for a second-round pick, so it wasn't a disastrous selection by any means.
But imagine if Pittsburgh had Hurts right now.
Perhaps it would be the Steelers with Super Bowl aspirations this season instead of Philly.
Of course, it's not like Pittsburgh should feel too bad about passing on Hurts. Plenty of other NFL teams did as well. And I'm sure those teams — especially the ones in quarterback purgatory — have regrets.
That's how it goes when it comes to the draft. Even the best front offices miss from time to time.
