Steelers Playoff Picture: Pittsburgh’s loss to the Chargers hurts even worse following latest AFC North news
Not the best 24 hours for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It feels like just yesterday that many were questioning the sports books for having the Baltimore Ravens as AFC North favorites despite being 2-5 and multiple games back of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But now Lamar Jackson is back, the Ravens are on a winning streak, and they sit just one game behind the Steelers in the AFC North.
That is due in large part to the Steelers’ disastrous loss against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Now is the time to start focusing on the AFC playoff picture.
But not only is there the surging Ravens to worry about, but the Cincinnati Bengals received some great news on Monday.

Steelers’ playoff chances sit at 39 percent following loss to Chargers
Following the loss to the Chargers on Sunday, the Steelers’ playoff chances are under 40% per NFL.com. The Ravens? They now have a 73% chance of making the postseason, and they are predicted to win the AFC North outright, despite currently trailing in the race.
And don’t look now, but the Cincinnati Bengals, sitting at 3-6 have opened the practice window for Joe Burrow, and he is already participating in a limited capacity. Cincinnati has just a two percent chance of reaching the postseason, but if they can find a win or two before Burrow gets back in the saddle, they could make some noise down the stretch as well.
“Burrow has missed the last seven games, and the team has won one of them. They averaged just 12.3 points per game with Jake Browning in the first three weeks following his injury. That led to a trade for Joe Flacco, who has found the fountain of youth with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Still, his play hasn’t been enough to overshadow how much of a letdown the defense has been.”
“Burrow shouldn’t be expected to play until he gets enough practice under his belt, but that day is coming a lot sooner than Cincinnati would’ve thought a month ago.” – John Sheeran, A to Z Sports
So it’s safe to say that the Steelers will have their work cut out for them. You can chalk up Aaron Rodgers’ performance against the Chargers as a dud if you want, but that was a very concerning game from the Steelers.
