Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson is coming off a bit of a down season.

Johnson caught 86 passes for 882 yards and zero touchdowns in 2022 while playing all 17 games.

Most of the blame for Johnson's downtick in production can be placed on offensive coordinator Matt Canada and the fact that Kenny Pickett didn't take over as the starter until midway through the season.

Johnson signed a two-year extension before the 2022 season. He was certainly looking to take a step forward in 2022 after having the best year of his young career in 2021 (107 receptions for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns).

The former Toledo standout's new contract kicked in this week so he has two more seasons (at the least) in Pittsburgh to live up to his extension.

On Friday, Johnson's pockets got a little richer thanks to the roster bonus that's due.

According to Johnson's contract, he's set to receive a $2.5 million roster bonus on March 17. Johnson's base salary is $8 million, meaning he'll earn $10.5 million this season. His cap hit is $16.3 million because of the inclusion of his signing bonus.

Johnson should have plenty of motivation to have a big season in 2023 (and 2024). He'll be just 28 when he hits free agency in two years. If he has two big seasons before hitting free agency, he could earn another large contract.
