They say things start to calm down after you finish your rookie season in the NFL. The whirlwind transition from college to the pros takes a while to adjust, especially for first-round selections, and especially for first-round quarterbacks expected to take over a franchise.
Such is the case for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett. Life on the football field will inevitably slow down for the second-year passer, but his off-field life is still in the fast lane for all the ridiculous reasons.
Pickett's car, a 2023 Genesis, was stolen on Wednesday and finally recovered by local police Friday afternoon. The car theft was crazy enough, but the contents of what was inside the vehicle makes this even crazier.
Inside Pickett's car was his Steelers playbook, which has also been recovered by the police. An arrest has since been made for the theft.
We're not talking about the tablet teams use now, we're talking about a physical book.
Pickett had been present at an event when his car was apprehended. The neighbor of the thief reported the car stolen, and a representative from the car dealership where the perp left his own car behind was sent to retrieve it.
Sure enough, Pickett's car and playbook was found safe and sound. The rep said a book, which contained "just personal information" was still in the backseat. Turns out, it's a pretty important book.
With OTAs taking place, the Steelers are in the process of going over their staple concepts, and introducing changes from the previous season. One playbook getting stolen wouldn't be the end of the world in late May, but thankfully this didn't happen in the middle of the season.
One big question remains, which team hired the culprit to steal Pickett's car, hoping his playbook would be in it? We've got money on the Cincinnati Bengals.
