The mass exodus of the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff is nothing new. Since Mike Tomlin stepped down, just about every position coach, much less coordinator, has taken a new job or is looking for one.

However, two recent departures will really sting for the Steelers, especially when you see where one of them wound up.

Eddie Faulkner leaving for Ravens’ RB coach Job

Faulkner was once the interim OC for the Steelers after Matt Canada was let go in Pittsburgh. He was there while Najee Harris ran for four straight 1,000-yard seasons and he helped turn Kenny Gainwell from a forgotten about free agent signing, into the team MVP

Now the Steelers will see him twice a year, where he gets to coach Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson as runners in the backfield. Say what you want about the offensive line, but the running backs in Pittsburgh have always exceeded expectations. Now, they will be expected to do the same, but with a new coach overseeing the backfield.

And oh, he wasn’t the only highly respected coach the Steelers lost this week.

Steelers lose DB coach Gerald Alexander to the Vikings

Alexander was one of the more highly thought of coaches on the Steelers staff. He was instrumental in taking the bones of a Pro Bowl and or All-Pro corner in Joey Porter Jr., and turning him into a player deserving of those accolades.

He helped take Jalen Ramsey, who played corner his whole career, and turn him into a safety that catalyzed growth in the backend of their defense. The Steelers opted to bring in Patrick Graham at defensive coordinator who of course, wants his own staff, and so Alexander is headed to coach the Minnesota Vikings.

The transition following Mike Tomlin’s departure was always going to be notable, but these two losses, among others, prove that the Steelers will look entirely different, top to bottom in 2026.

Whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen.
