The Pittsburgh Steelers ended up making the playoffs last month before being drummed by the Houston Texans, but it nearly never happened. With a chance to wrap up the AFC North in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers’ WR corps generated just 60 total yards of receiving, and it created a do-or-die scenario with the Ravens in Week 18.

That was due in large part to the loss of DK Metcalf during those games. Metcalf was suspended without pay for Weeks 17 and 18 following his altercation with a Lions fan, but he may be bracing for another loss following this week’s news.

Lions fan Ryan Kennedy is suing DK Metcalf, Chad Ochocinco Johnson for $100m

The lawsuit comes after Chad Johnson said on his Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe that Metcalf told him that Kennedy used a racial slur against him. Kennedy vehemently denied the allegations, with him and his legal representation saying there is no proof or evidence that anything was said, and now the defamation lawsuit has been filed.

Kennedy was caught on video saying, “That was the goal baby” after luring Metcalf over to the sidelines and engaging with the Steelers’ star wide receiver. Kennedy says that he merely called Metcalf his full name, DeKaylin, and that set him off.

There is also a history between these two parties. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that Kennedy and Metcalf have had run-ins dating back to Metcalf’s time as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. The NFL came down hard on Metcalf, setting the precedent that players cannot touch fans under any circumstances.

The timeline for when this matter could reach a resolution is currently unknown, and Metcalf wouldn’t answer any questions about the matter when he returned to the Steelers’ facility ahead of the playoffs.
