Steelers Roster Reset: Major questions still loom at inside LB

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't done prepping their roster for the upcoming 2023 season and that's a good thing since they didn't address the inside linebacker position very well in the draft.
The team will have to bet on their free-agent additions and potentially a few free agent signings, but as of now, the lack of draft capital placed on the position is concerning to say the least.
So, without further ado, let's check out the Steelers post-draft roster. Note: Single asterisks (*) represent 2023 draft picks and double asterisks (**) represent undrafted free agents.
Quarterback
- Kenny Pickett
- Mitchell Trubisky
- Tanner Morgan**
The skinny: The team obviously is all in behind Kenny Pickett, as they should be for at least the next two years. Trubisky is a suitable backup but his contract is fairly steep for a backup and could point to the reasoning behind their pickup of UDFA Tanner Morgan.
Running back
- Jordyn Byrd**
- Najee Harris
- Jason Huntley
- Anthony McFarland Jr.
- Monte Pottebaum**
- Master Teague
- Jaylen Warren
The skinny: This unit is headlined by Najee Harris, who came into his own late in the season last year after a rocky start. Pairing him with an excellent change of pace back in Warren, and this group can be atop the league.
Wide receiver
- Calvin Austin
- Miles Boykin
- Ja'Marcus Bradley
- Dan Chisena
- Dez Fitzpatrick
- Diontae Johnson
- Anthony Miller
- Gunner Olszewski
- George Pickens
- Allen Robinson
- Cody White
The skinny: With Diontae Johnson and George Pickens on the perimeter, and then Calvin Austin and Allen Robinson playing in the slot, the weapons are plentiful in the receiving corps.
Tight end
- Pat Freiermuth
- Zach Gentry
- Connor Heyward
- Darnell Washington*
- Rodney Williams
The skinny: Following the selection of Darnell Washington late on day three, the Steelers now have the potential to be the best 12-personnel (two tight end sets) team in the league in my opinion.
Offensive line
- Spencer Anderson C*
- Le'Raven Clark T
- Mason Cole C
- James Daniels G
- Kevin Dotson G
- Trevor Downing**
- William Dunkle G
- Kendrick Green G
- Nate Herbig G
- Broderick Jones T*
- Ryan McCollum C
- Dan Moore T
- Chukwuma Okorafor T
- Isaac Seumalo G
The skinny: The Steelers approached the draft with a glaring need at left tackle, but that has since been patched with first-round pick Broderick Jones. With the addition of Seumalo in free agency, suddenly the offensive line may see tremendous upgrades in 2023.

Defensive line
- Montravius Adams NT
- Keeanu Benton DT*
- Breiden Fehoko DE
- Cameron Heyward DT
- DeMarvin Leal DE
- Isaiahh Loudermilk DE
- James Nyamwaya DT**
- Jonathan Marshall DT
- Larry Ogunjobi DE
- Armon Watts DE
- Renell Wren DT
The skinny: The heart and soul of the defense, the unit just got even stronger following the second-round selection of Keeanu Benton. Heyward, Benton, "Larry O" and the rest will surely be a force in the fall.
Outside linebacker/EDGE
- Emeke Egbule
- Nick Herbig*
- Alex Highsmith
- Quincy Roche
- Chapelle Russell
- T. J. Watt
The skinny: Anytime you have a former league MVP as far as defenders go on your team, that unit is obviously going to be one of the best in the NFL. With Watt just entering his prime and Highsmith coming into his own last season, this group of pass rushers should given offensive tackles nightmares.
Inside linebacker
- Tae Crowder ILB
- Cole Holcomb ILB
- Tanner Muse ILB
- Elandon Roberts ILB
- Mark Robinson ILB
The skinny: Well, we have finally reached the problem child of the roster. Yes, I like the addition of Holcomb, but outside of him, this group will have major problems in pass coverage. I know Pittsburgh has pivoted back to more traditional thresholds when it comes to size at the position, but I worry it may come at the cost of zone capabilities.
Cornerback
- Duke Dawson
- Madre Harper
- Arthur Maulet
- Patrick Peterson
- James Pierre
- Joey Porter Jr.*
- Chandon Sullivan
- Cory Trice Jr.*
- Levi Wallace
- Chris Wilcox
- Ahkello Witherspoon
The skinny: Following the addition of Porter Jr. and Trice Jr. I think the corner spot can be one of the more underrated in the league. Peterson has shown he is capable of holding his own at this point in his career, and the group has depth and talent throughout.

Safety
- Minkah Fitzpatrick
- Damontae Kazee
- Miles Killebrew
- Keanu Neal
- Scott Nelson
- Tre Norwood
- Elijah Riley
- Kenny Robinson
The skinny: The Steelers are obviously taking a risk with Fitzpatrick as the only real asset in this group, but Kazee once lead the league in interceptions and Keanu Neal may play a hybrid, linebacker-safety role, leaving me optimistic about this unit's potential.
Special teams
- Chris Boswell K
- Pressley Harvin III P
- Christian Kuntz LS
- Braden Mann P
- BT Potter K**
The skinny: The addition of Braden Mann raised some eyebrows around Pittsburgh, as the Steelers may be punting on former day three pick Pressley Harvin. As far as the kicker position, the hope is Boswell can return to form after an injury-plagued 2022 season.
