Well, the wait is finally over.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN Super Bowl champion QB Russell Wilson has agreed to terms with the Pittsburgh Steelers:
Russell Wilson agrees to one year deal With Pittsburgh Steelers
Russell is set to join the Steelers on a one year deal and for $1.2 million according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The deal comes in light of Denver owing Wilson nearly $40 million after terminating his contract early and eating an NFL record, $85 million in dead cap.
Because the league year doesn't begin until Wednesday, March 13th, Wilson and the Steelers have only agreed to terms, with things able to become official at 4:00 pm on said day.
A former Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, it was my understanding that Wilson wanted to come in and compete for the starting job at the very least, if not start.
Pittsburgh has held firm in their stance on Kenny Pickett as the starter in 2024, but GM Omar Khan didn’t shy away from mentioning competition at the position come training camp.
And despite his recent tenure in Denver, Wilson is going to give it everything he has in the offseason, setting up a QB battle that will be enticing well into the fall.
