Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and member of the Super Bowl XL team Clark Haggans has died, according a spokesperson from the Steelers. Haggans was just 46 years old.
A native of Torrance, CA., Haggans was drafted in the fifth round by the Steelers in 2000. He stayed in Pittsburgh for eight seasons and played in 107 games, 61 of them he started.
Haggans spent the back half of his Steelers career as a starter alongside college teammate Joey Porter. He would go on to log 332 tackles, 32.5 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, and one interception during his time in Black and Yellow.
Perhaps the most notable of moments Haggans created was early on in Super Bowl XL, when he sacked Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Seattle's first possession of the game. Haggans also posted a career-high nine sacks during that 2005 championship season.
Haggans continued his football career after Pittsburgh, spendings four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and then one season with the San Francisco 49ers. He would retire following the 2012 season.
