In case you missed it, the Pittsburgh Steelers were stuck on a plane following their victory in Vegas on Sunday Night Football.
Arriving in Pittsburgh some 12 hours later than expected at around noon Eastern on Monday, Pittsburgh's routine certainly got thrown a curveball.
But according to Coach Tomlin, that isn't even being thought about:
"It's a Non Factor"
“We are going to make it a non-issue, to be honest with you,” Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday. “It is in our rearview now. As I stand here today, it is a non-factor. We only have so many days and hours to prepare. We haven’t lost any physical preparation opportunities with our football team or classroom opportunities with our football team. I created a few hours yesterday and today that our staff had to absorb from a preparation standpoint. Technology was a component of that.”
Not only is Coach T right to blow it off, but as he would later point out, the usage of iPads allowed players and coaches to review the game film against the Raiders, allocating some of their time to productivity in an odd setting.
“I don’t want it to become an excuse,” Coach Tomlin said after multiple reporters addressed the weird event. When asked about what he personally accomplished while the team was stuck on the plane, Coach T said: "Some sleeping, and some working."
So hopefully it is in fact a non-issue. Say what you want, but sleeping overnight on a plane, even if it's a private charter isn't the same as your bed at home. The good news is that everyone got back to Pittsburgh safely, with the Steelers shifting their full attention to the Houston Texans on Sunday.
