The Pittsburgh Steelers defied a lot of odds to win the AFC North for the first time in half a decade. Coming into the season, many picked the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals to be atop the division, with the Steelers hovering around 8.5 wins on most sportsbooks.

Instead, Baltimore ended their season with a loss that changed the face of the franchise, and the Bengals had yet another losing season. Pittsburgh wasn’t without its issues for most of the year, but they are in the playoffs because their big offseason move at quarterback has panned out. If it’s up to the Steelers, it will pan out again in 2026.

Steelers would welcome back Aaron Rodgers

“What we do not know is whether or not Aaron Rodgers will be playing his final game. Obviously if they win, definitely not. If he loses, potentially, and he started this season with the thought that he would retire after the season. In the locker room a couple weeks ago, though, he opened the door potentially to returning for 2026,” said NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport over the weekend.

“Certainly is playing well enough. My understanding is [that] if Rodgers did want to return for next season, the Steelers, who have really enjoyed the experience, would be more than open to it. Just hope you get an answer sooner rather than later like they did last offseason.”

If you only watched the Chargers game on primetime or the Browns game from two weeks ago, you would probably think the Steelers are out of their minds. However, those who follow the team have known how highly Rodgers’ teammates and coaches have spoken about him.

Steelers fans have seen the best quarterback play since prime Ben Roethlisberger. The world witnessed him throw seam passes past the earholes of Ravens defenders in a must-win game on Sunday night, showing that his arm is just as sharp as his mind at 42-years-old.

So the sentiment from the Steelers should come as no surprise to fans who consumed Steelers football this season. It shouldn’t prevent the Steelers from seeing what they have in Will Howard, and or drafting another signal caller, but if Aaron Rodgers wants to be back, the Steelers should welcome him with open arms.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that in his first year with the Steelers, they are hosting a playoff game for the first time since No.7 was calling the signals in black and gold.
