Steelers’ reason for signing CB from the practice squad to the active roster explained by latest injury report
Here’s what the team is looking like in terms of health.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were back at it on Wednesday, preparing for the home opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
With an abundance of players already out per HC Mike Tomlin, the injury report would provide key updates on Nick Herbig and Joey Porter Jr., whom Mike Tomlin was optimistic about when speaking on Tuesday.
It was more of the same for Herbig, but the signing of James Pierre from the practice squad to the active roster made a lot of sense when seeing that Porter Jr. didn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Steelers Week 2 Injury Report (Wednesday)
“I’ll quickly give you an injury report,” said Tomlin during his weekly address on Tuesday. “Derrick Harmon [you] can anticipate him continuing to be out this week with his knee. DeShon Elliott, the same with his knee. Malik Harrison, the same with his knee. And so those are three guys that are potentially scheduled to be out as I sit here today. . .
” . . Joey Porter wasn’t able to finish the game with a hamstring. Optimistic about his availability, but I’ll let the quality of his work and the amount of his work during the week be our guide there. And really optimistic and hopeful about Nick Herbig being available for us this week.”
It’s still early, but between the Pierre signing and no Porter Jr. in practice, his availability for Sunday is at least in question if not in doubt. The Steelers tend to take things slow with soft tissue injuries, but especially hamstrings, as you may recall George Pickens missing three games last year with a tight/strained hamstring.
If he can’t go, the Steelers will head into Week 2 down two starters in their secondary. DeShon Elliott is slated to miss multiple weeks with an MCL sprain, but his replacement is already looking good at practice as Jabrill Peppers aims to work his way into some valuable reps.
