Steelers may have just lost the battle for the AFC North championship without even playing a game after latest T.J. Watt news
T.J. Watt has been hospitalized, here is the latest on what we know.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a huge game on Monday night with the season hanging in the balance. A home game against the Miami Dolphins in which the team is favored, which may soon change following the latest update on T.J. Watt.
After receiving treatment at the Steelers facility on Wednesday, Watt was sent to the hospital with lung issues. Here is the latest on what we know.
T.J. Watt was hospitalized after receiving treatment on Wednesday
“T.J. Watt is currently in a local hospital for further medical evaluation of his lung after experiencing discomfort at the practice facility on Wednesday. He will not be at practice on Thursday, and his status for Monday night’s game vs. Miami is in question. Coach Tomlin will provide more updates at the appropriate time.” – Steelers P.R.
It is far too early to speculate on exactly what Watt is dealing with. Still, NFL insider Adam Schefter has made clear that Watt sustained the injury while receiving treatment at the Steelers’ facility, and the National Football League Players Association is involved.
“I’m a little bit cautious about what I say because I’m not a medical expert, but to make a long story short, he was experiencing some discomfort when he was at the facility yesterday, and so we took him to the docs and they’re going through some procedures,” said Mike Tomlin after practice on Thursday, via Chris Adamski on Twitter-X.
“He stayed overnight in the hospital. He has a lung situation that’s being addressed. I think he has some testing and so forth ahead of him this afternoon. And that’s all I know at this juncture. He and I communicated last night. He was comfortable, and that’s all I have really at this point.”
This is obviously a scary situation for Watt and the Steelers. If this lingers and he misses a significant amount of time, the Steelers’ season will go up in smoke. Pittsburgh is 1-11 all-time when Watt misses a game, opposed to 86-46 when he’s on the field. Right now, the focus is on Watt and his recovery.
The extent of the injury and the duration of his rehab are unknown, and it would be wrong to speculate based on the present information. For now, we await further comment from Tomlin and will update you as it comes in.
