Aaron Rodgers leaves Steelers with an obvious choice at quarterback if Chargers game is a sign of what’s to come for rest of 2025

It’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were thoroughly outclassed by the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10 in front of a national audience on “Sunday Night Football.” It was one of the more lopsided losses in recent memory, and the Steelers’ offense was stuck in the mud until garbage time.

Some of that was due to poor protection, a lack of talent on the perimeter, and the Chargers’ strengths. But a big problem on Sunday, if not the biggest, was the concerning play from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The scattershot accuracy, missed layups, and bad process were the first of their kind for Rodgers in the black and gold.

But if it’s not the last, there could be a much-anticipated name under center for the Steelers.

Will Howard could start for the Steelers if Aaron Rodgers continues to struggle

By no means am I saying that Rodgers should be benched. What we saw Sunday night was a stinker. A game where even future Hall of Famers look like mere mortals. That was Rodgers against the Chargers.

From the first drive, Rodgers didn’t look right. He was missing passes he normally makes in his sleep. He looked aloof on some plays, rushed on others, and overall, he was a liability for the first time in his Steelers career. He finished the game with a mere 51% completion percentage, and he had twice as many interceptions as TD throws.

“I was just a little bit off,” said Rodgers after the game via the Steelers YouTube channel. “You know, [I] missed DK early [on what] could have been a big play. Little high to Jonnu. Oh yeah, we didn’t run the ball super effectively in the first half. I missed, obviously, some throws for sure, and then, yeah, we weren’t getting guys open and put it all together. You know, times the guys were open, I missed some throws I usually make.”

Rodgers is not afraid to own his performance. Not just against the Chargers, but throughout his career. He’s had a stinker in the past. And that’s exactly what this game was. The odds of it being a trend the rest of the season feel low.

But on the off chance it isn’t and Rodgers continues to play like that, there will be more than a few calling for former Ohio State Buckeyes national champion QB Will Howard to step in and show the Steelers they found a guy in the sixth round.

We’ll see if it even gets that far.
