The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled on both sides of the ball this year,., after having an elite defense in 2023. But, one they have done, despite being one of the worst teams in the league, is seeing how good some of their young talents are, including guys on the practice squad, or rookies undrafted or drafted late. They have also taken some chances on free agents, and all of these things have seen some small success for the Raiders.

One of the guys they brought on to see what was there, was veteran cornerback Darnay Holmes, who spent his entire career with the New York Giants before this year. They saw something in the 26-year-old, and that's proved a bit right so far.

In fact, in their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Holmes matched what a former fab favorite did. Here is what the Raiders' PR team tweeted out during the game:

CB Darnay Holmes brings down Bucs QB Baker Mayfield for a sack and a loss of eight yards. Holmes notches the first full sack of his career. Holmes is the first Raiders cornerback with at least seven total tackles and a sack in a game since Nnamdi Asomugha in 2006 (seven tackles, 1.0 sacks at KC). The only other Raiders CB since 2000 to accomplish the feat was Eric Allen in 2000 (eight tackles, 1.0 sacks at DEN).

The Raiders have found a few players that no one really knew about or wanted to take chances on and let them show what they could do. Guys like Amari Gainer, Sincere McCormick, and now Holmes, have all played well this year despite it being a very bad season.

The Raiders are now 2-11 and will go on to play the Atlanta Falcons.
