In 2016, Payton Manning had to make the hard decision to end his NFL playing career.
So, he's the perfect person to give Travis Kelce some advice as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has to make that same decision this offseason.
Speaking exclusively with E! News on Sunday night at SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, Manning kept his message to Kelce simple.
"I hope he takes some time and he doesn’t make a rushed decision," Manning said.
Super Bowl LIX was a hard game for Kelce and the Chiefs, who fell to the Philadelphia Eagles. So, making a rash decision while emotions are high is not the right move.
"So, the last thing you want to do is say ‘OK, I’m going to make a decision now,'" Manning added. "Take some time. Take a full month. Let some things digest and calm down. He can make a better decision then."
Kelce has said that he feels that he can still play at this level physically. However, it's just as important to have the right mindset too. He has to see where he's at mentally when the emotions die down.
However, Manning along with fans everywhere are hopeful that Kelce will be back on the field next season.
"I hope he comes back and plays," Manning explained. "He's fun to watch, but he’s got to do what’s best for him."
According to The Athletic, Kelce has until March 14 to make his decision. Kelce is due a $11.5 million roster bonus on March 15, per Over The Cap. And with that, the NFL’s free agency period begins March 10.
So, that means he has about a month to make such an important decision, and we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
