Pete Carroll and the Las Vegas Raiders want to compete this year. They want to win this year — no rebuilding. And, while it's not likely for them to make a postseason run, they are definitely closer now than they were last season.
However, there are still some things that need to be addressed. With free agency here and the 2025 NFL Draft in a few months, the Raiders have work to do. Right now, it's all about addressing as many needs as possible before the draft. One of the needs on that list was a quarterback, if not the biggest need. They got Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks and are now trying to check other things off the list.
Not next on the list, but certainly something that is on there, is addressing the defensive tackle depth. They have re-signed Adam Butler and now Zach Carter. However, it appears they could be interested in adding more depth.
Raiders meet with veteran DT
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the Raiders met with veteran defensive tackle Leki Fotu.
Fotu is a veteran defensive tackle known for his size and strength. At 6’5” and 335 pounds, he’s a big presence on the defensive line and good at stopping the run.
Fotu played college football at Utah from 2016 to 2019, earning First-Team All-Pac-12 honors in 2018 and 2019. The Arizona Cardinals drafted him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. With the Cardinals, he played four seasons, appearing in 44 games with 67 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery, mostly as a rotational player focused on stopping the run.
In 2024, Fotu joined the New York Jets but only played two games due to injuries—a hamstring issue and later a knee problem—landing him on injured reserve twice. Now a free agent in 2025, teams like the Buffalo Bills and, of course, the Raiders are interested. At 26, Fotu remains a solid option for depth and run defense if he can stay healthy.
He's a veteran guy who can help with depth, which we know the Raiders will need based on what we saw last year.
