The Las Vegas Raiders got a steal in the second round and one NFL analyst seems to think they will expect big things from the draft pick.

The Las Vegas Raiders needed a tight end coming into the draft, and I think we all know that, but not many knew that the best tight end in the draft would fall in their lap at pick 35. Of course, they traded up from 38 to get him, but they thought it was worth it, and it very well could be. People seem to think Michael Mayer could be great for the Raiders.

The safe bet is that Mayer becomes a big part of this offense as a rookie. As an added bonus, he's also an effective blocker who should make life easier for All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs. –Jeffri Chadiha, NFL.com

The Las Vegas Raiders started their free agency period not by signing anyone huge, but instead by trading away a huge piece of their franchise. They sent superstar tight end Darren Waller to the New York Giants for pick 100 in the draft, which turned out to be wide receiver, Tre Tucker.

After that they signed Austin Hooper as their starter, so we thought. He was definitely a better option than then backup Jesper Horsted or O.J. Howard, but was he the guy the Raiders wanted to invest in at the position? No. He was just a backup plan just in case.

Hooper has been a Pro Bowler before, but since 2019 he hasn't had a single season over 500 receiving yards, so it's safe to say they didn't want to bank on him being a big part of their offense. Grabbing Michael Mayer was a move for the long term of the franchise but also a right-now thing.

This NFL analyst thinks he can start in 2023 and be utilized in more ways than one. Mayer is a guy that really fits with what the Raiders want to do, and that includes in the run game as a blocker.
