The Las Vegas Raiders surprised some people in the 2023 NFL Draft. In the first round, they doubled down on a strength of their roster. They stuck to their board and took their best available prospect – which was edge rusher Tyree Wilson.
Some eyebrows were raised at the time of the selection, even though Wilson was projected to be the second edge off the board. That was because the Raiders already had Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby on their depth chart. You can never have too many pass rushers, though, and Wilson's upside is riveting.
Wilson hasn't participated in on-field work so far due to surgeries on his foot, but that doesn't mean he hasn't m made an impact yet in Las Vegas. According to ProFootballTalk, the rookie is impressing star edge Maxx Crosby in the meeting room.
“I’ve seen a bunch of highlights, but just from his physical gifts alone he can be a great player… You can have tools, you can have every bit of talent — that’s the NFL, everybody’s talented… but it’s what you do when you get in the building. He’s had a great attitude so far. He seems like a great kid.” – Crosby via ESPN
Wilson says that he will be ready to practice during training camp. The Raiders shouldn't rush him back right now, anyway. Fans are ready to see him on the field, but they'll get plenty of that during the season.
