Cowboys rookie has one more chance to get off the naughty list, but it won’t be on Christmas Day
Jaydon Blue is once again among the Cowboys’ gameday inactives.
I can’t say I’m surprised rookie running back Jaydon Blue is a healthy scratch for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17. That’s been the case most of the season, but I’m still as confused as I was on Day 1.
The Cowboys are about to play their second-to-last game of the season, a Christmas Day clash against the Washington Commanders with no playoff stakes, and the coaching staff doesn’t even want to get a closer look at the rookie. Talk about being on the naughty list. Will things get better at some point?
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn’t making any guarantees. Before Dallas’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Schotty made no commitment to play Blue and suggested the rookie hadn’t earned it.
“Yeah, if he earns the right to do it, absolutely,” Schottenheimer said when asked if Blue would get playing time. “He’s no different than the other guys. I see flashes from Jaydon all the time. I see that the talent is real. The standard is not always met, just being quite honest and frank with you guys. I’m not saying anything I haven’t said to Jaydon. But if he keeps working and continues to do a great job in his preparation and all that, then of course he can earn the right to play.”
The door is open, but it doesn’t sound promising. Blue missed the Chargers game after those comments and is now a healthy scratch again against the Commanders. Can he turn the tables in Week 18 for one more chance before his rookie year is over?
