The New Orleans Saints already added an impact linebacker in free agency. Willie Gay Jr. will play a role on defense and special teams. They are not looking at talent in the front seven and off the edge, though.
They're showing interest in an under-the-radar linebacker in the 2024 NFL Draft, too.
Michigan State LB Aaron Brule is working out for the Saints on Friday at their local pro day.
Brule is an awesome athlete at his position. He moves fluidly and has always had a nose for the ballcarrier, whether that is a tight end, running back, or quarterback. He's a fast analyzer on defense and was a leader throughout his college career.
The former Michigan State and Mississippi State defender can lay the boom as well. When he hits someone, they will feel it for a few plays.
Brule was a late day two/early day three projection in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he returned to school. Now, his stock is a bit unknown. He hasn't got a ton of national media coverage, but plenty of local media know his talent well.
The linebacker may be a late bloomer in the process, rising up draft boards in April.
Brule's athletic profile fits what the Saints prefer, too. He can rush the passer off the edge but also has fluidity to drop into coverage if necessary.
Do not be shocked if the Saints fall in love with him at Friday's pro day and target him in this year's draft.
