The New Orleans Saints snagged NFL headlines on Tuesday when they brought back tight end Jimmy Graham. Graham, 36, spent the early part of his career in New Orleans. He was ultra-productive as a main target for Drew Brees. He did not play last season, but he's in great shape, according to head coach Dennis Allen. The team also signed two offensive lineman. Former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Trai Turner and veteran Max Garcia are also headed to New Orleans.
With those moves, the Saints had to clear two roster spots. They had one opening prior to the new deals. Accordingly, New Orleans waived tight end Miller Forristall and offensive lineman Koda Martin.
Neither Martin or Forristall was projected to play a role for the Saints. Forristall was the odd man out in the TE room after the addition of Graham. Juwan Johnson, Taysom Hill, Foster Moreau, and Jesse James remain at that position for New Orleans.
As for Martin, he was a depth interior OL for the Saints. Garcia basically replaces his spot, while Turner will also be a backup on the inside. Rookie Nick Saldiveri, Calvin Throckmorton, and Lewis Kidd are the most notable interior linemen remaining on the depth chart alongside the new players.
Keep an eye out for training camp battles in the coming days at every position.
