A WR? A CB? What about finding a quarterback who can sit for a year and take over for Derek Carr in 2026?
Well, that last part may have to be sped up…
Saints QB Derek Carr in jeopardy of missing 2025 season
Quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for the upcoming season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday afternoon.
Carr is weighing his options — including the possibility of surgery, per Rapoport. The Saints hold the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be impacted heavily by Carr's shoulder and decision on how to proceed.

Suddenly, the talk, rumors, and hearsay surrounding the Saints taking a quarterback at nine becomes a reality. That is especially true when you consider that Shedeur Sanders, who was once thought of as a top 5 pick, has been seeing a fall in stock, leaving New Orleans in prime position to draft a quarterback in round one.
Of course, there are options, including Jaxson Dart, who seemed unlikely just days ago, but should Sanders go before New Orleans is on the clock, the Saints might be forced to decide whether Jaxson Dart or Spencer Rattler gives them the best chance to win.
They know what they have in the latter, meaning the former may be their best bet.
I mean, talk about out of left field. The Saints have shown some interest in the rookie quarterback class, particularly Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, and Jalen Milroe. That being said, the feeling prior to this new was much different around the position. If Carr does need surgery that would force him to miss some or all of next season, that would push a rookie option to be the starter – if he beats out Spencer Rattler.
Not to mention, this upcoming season is the final one on Carr’s deal with guaranteed money. We may have seen the last of him playing in black and gold, depending on the prognosis of this injury. It’s hard to envision him being brought back afterwards in a scenario where he misses this season.
