New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is facing plenty of scrutiny. That should come as no surprise after the veteran signed a large, long-term contract with the organization this past offseason.
After the Jacksonville Jaguars' win over Carr and the Saints, veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins did not hold back when asked about how the defense game planned for Carr and the Saints.
“We know that’s Derek Carr’s game. He’s gonna checkdown, checkdown, checkdown. We just have to win the game down the field.”
— Jags safety Rayshawn Jenkins
Alvin Kamara led the team in receptions once again (12). So, Jenkins certainly has a point.
This season, it has been clear that Carr will dump the ball off on a check down rather quickly in some situations – even if that is not the smartest decision. It cannot be overlooked that OC Pete Carmichael Jr.'s play calling has not done him any favors in that regard either, though.
Regardless, it was some disrespect from Jenkins towards Carr. In reality, it was a scoff in the direction of the veteran quarterback.
The Saints need better play from Carr and the entire offense, though. The miscommunication is unacceptable this far into the season, and the QB has gotten noticeably frustrated.
At 3-4, the Saints are at risk of losing handle of another season that had plenty of potential.
