The New Orleans Saints continue to build out their staff under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. They've got a handful of open spots remaining, but running backs coach is expected to get filled very soon.

According to Matt Zenitz, the Saints have targeted their new running backs coach. It's former Los Angeles Chargers RBs coach Derrick Foster. He also worked at Iowa before that tenure.

During Foster's time with LA, Austin Ekeler scored 44 total touchdowns at RB for the Chargers. He led the NFL in 2021 and 2022. They hope that Foster can help reignite the running game in New Orleans.

The Chargers never ranked above 22nd in rushing attempts during his time with the organization, but expect that to be a bit different in New Orleans. Kubiak will want to establish the run and use it effectively to set up the passing game, both horizontally and vertically.

Foster has a local connection, too. He coached running backs and wide receiver at Northwestern State from 2013-2015. He recruited the New Orleans area during that time.

"(Foster) always went the extra mile, not only for every player but specifically New Orleans players…"

— Lynn Clark, former player under Foster at NW State

Foster will be a key piece to the offensive rejuvenation that New Orleans hopes for in 2024.
