The New Orleans Saints wide receiver room is a fiery competition. There's a lot of talent on the depth chart at WR, and a mix of young players and veterans are battling it out so far in the preseason.
A.T. Perry is a rookie that has made waves and seemingly, locked up a roster spot. Kawaan Baker, Shaq Davis, and Jontre Kirklin are all younger players that have shown bright spots in the preseason. All three have also showed some inconsistencies.
That being said, veteran wide receiver Bryan Edwards has probably been the most disappointing of the current group in the preseason.
Fans had high hopes for the former third-round pick when he joined the team earlier in the offseason, but it just hasn't clicked for him in New Orleans. In Sunday's game versus the Chargers, Edwards played the most snaps for a receiver on the Saints outside of Kirklin.
New Orleans gave him opportunities, and he didn't deliver. It's clear that they were looking for him to stand out, but Edwards just didn't. Edwards finished the game without a reception. He also had two penalties.
Meanwhile, Shaq Davis and Jontre Kirklin led the team in receiving with 63 and 59 yards, respectively. Lynn Bowden Jr. also caught a couple of passes and returned some kicks effectively. His special teams prowess makes him more valuable than Edwards, too.
Edwards is running out of time to make an impact that will earn him a roster spot for the Saints.
