The New Orleans Saints have had fairly positive luck when it comes to injuries this offseason. One player has not had good fortune, though. Wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith missed the entire preseason with a groin injury.

Smith underwent surgery for the injury, and he is now unlikely to play in Week 1, according to Jeff Duncan.

If he does miss the season opener, it'll be the third season in a row that Smith won't play in Week 1 due to injury. Last season, it was a shoulder issue. In 2021, he had a hamstring injury.

For the Saints, they've been practicing without him for most of this offseason, anyway. Smith got a roster spot due to his run blocking and experience in the system – most likely. That choice gets more questionable as times goes on, and he misses more time, though.

Their game plan for the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 won't change much with this news.

Expect plenty of involvement for Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and Rashid Shaheed to start the season. A.T. Perry could see plenty of snaps, too. Expect Shaq Davis, Jontre Kirklin, or Lynn Bowden to be elevated from the practice squad on game day as well.
