The New Orleans Saints had a handful of important impending free agents for the 2024 free agency cycle. As they are strapped when it comes to cap space, many of those guys will probably be on a new team next year.

One of those players is Zack Baun. An edge rusher that was used out of place for part of his career in black and gold, Baun showed some impressive pass rush skills at times last season for New Orleans. Now, he is getting a fresh start with another NFC team, and he will do well for them.

According to reports, Baun plans to sign a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

For Baun, it is a great situation. The Eagles have a good bit of veteran talent on their defensive line, and he can play in a 3-4 scheme that benefits him.

In New Orleans, they spent time using him as an inside linebacker. That was never his biggest strength in college, and that showed in the pros. When used as a situational pass rusher, he was much more productive.

That talent heads to Philly now. The deal is expected to be for $3.5 million, fully guaranteed.

Bringing Baun back at that price would have made some sense if the Saints planned to use him in a pass rushing role again, but he probably wanted to go elsewhere for a larger role and a new beginning. You cannot blame him for that.
