The San Francisco 49ers face a huge game with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8, and it's a matchup that's getting the broadcast team it deserves.

As the national game for CBS, the 49ers and Bengals will be called by its top team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, with Tracy Wolfson on the sideline.

Nantz and Romo have not served as the announcers for a Niners game since San Francisco's Wild Card win over the Dallas Cowboys in the 2021 season.

They last called a Niners regular season during the pandemic-affected campaign of 2020, when San Francisco trounced the New England Patriots on the road at an empty Gillette Stadium behind a three-touchdown day from Jeff Wilson Jr.

The pair have never announced a game together from Levi's Stadium, and their first experience of doing so sees them call what should be a fascinating matchup.

San Francisco is looking to bounce back from a two-game losing steak that has dropped the 49ers to 5-2.

However, the Niners will likely look to get back to winning ways without quarterback Brock Purdy, who is in the concussion protocol.

Sam Darnold will likely make his first 49ers start if Purdy cannot play, providing the NFL world with a window into whether Kyle Shanahan can harness the best out of an exceptionally gifted quarterback who has never managed to put it all together at the highest level.

Romo is the perfect color analyst to break down Darnold's attempts to succeed against a tough Bengals defense, while it should also be extremely interesting to hear him analyze the matchup between Joe Burrow and a vaunted 49er defense that struggled mightily against Kirk Cousins on Monday.

The 49ers have a very hard task to right the ship against a Bengals team coming off the bye, but they'll hope Nantz and Romo can continue to prove a good luck charm as they look to head in to their own week off on a high note.
