Before Kyle Shanahan became the San Francisco 49ers head coach, 1,000-yard receiving seasons had been something largely beyond the team.

Prior to the Niners hiring Shanahan, the Niners had only three such receiving campaigns in the previous 14 seasons, with two of them coming from the same player.

Though the first Shanahan season did not yield one, with Marquise Goodwin barely missing out, the 49ers went into this year having had a 1,000-yard pass-catcher in four of the last five seasons. Now, they can check 2023 off as a successful year in that regard after Brandon Aiyuk reached four figures in Sunday's win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Having gone over 1,000 for the first time in his career in 2022, Aiyuk became the first 49ers wide receiver to record back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since Anquan Boldin in 2014. Tight end George Kittle backed up his record-setting 2018 with another four-figure effort in 2019.

Aiyuk's 126-yard performance against Seattle, which took him to 1,053 yards for the year, was his fifth 100-yard effort this season, with head coach Kyle Shanahan believing milestone seasons are now an inevitability for the 2020 first-round pick because of his consistency in all areas of his game.

"Just every year he gets so much better just on the football field and and also off the football field, which leads to the football field in terms of how mature he is," Shanahan said of Aiyuk.

"He's one of our leaders in there. I think BA's come a long way in terms of he gets so amped up for the games and sometimes he won't get a ball for a little bit and then he gets it late and sometimes it happens early.

"But just BA this year, it really doesn't matter with him. He plays the same way down in and down out and carries over in the run game and the pass game. With the type of football player he is and how talented he is, it's always feels like it's a matter of time he is going to get a thousand, but he deserves it. He's been great for us this year."

Both Kittle and Deebo Samuel are on pace to join him in surpassing 1,000 yards, but it is Aiyuk who is once again setting the standard in turning what was once a rarity for San Francisco into something that has become routine.
