Brock Purdy did not play in the San Francisco 49ers' Week 18 game with the Los Angeles Rams, but he still made history as their regular season came to an end.
By not playing a snap in the Niners' 21-20 defeat to the Rams in a meaningless finale, Purdy finished the year with a passer rating of 113.0.
That is a new franchise record for the 49ers, surpassing the previous best of 112.8 set by Steve Young in the 1994 season, the last campaign in which the Niners won the Super Bowl.
The Niners still have three games to win to achieve that ultimate goal this season.
But Purdy getting a chance to rest having recently suffered a stinger should theoretically improve their chances of doing so.
With the 49ers enjoying the benefit of a first-round bye, Purdy is essentially getting a two-week break and has still managed to break a franchise record while enjoying some much-needed time off.
For Purdy, the final week of the regular season was yet another that provided reason to celebrate even as the Niners suffered defeat.
