The San Francisco 49ers are targeting a 6-0 start when they face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

San Francisco's visit to Northeast Ohio marks the Niners' first road game since the Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers have reeled off three successive home wins to earn the status of the best team in football through five weeks.

Cleveland, even without quarterback Deshaun Watson, has the talent to put that title under significant examination, and the Niners won't be taking anything for granted despite being heavy favorites to remain unbeaten.

Can Purdy keep the MVP train going?

The 49ers have starts all over the field, but the focus primarily remains on the quarterback who was the final pick in last year's draft.

Brock Purdy is the MVP favorite nobody expected five weeks into the campaign having made a blistering start to his first full season as starter. He leads the NFL in passer rating, QBR, DYAR (a measure of total value) and Expected Points Added per play.

Last week, he shredded a vaunted Dallas Cowboys for his first four-passing touchdown performance. Doing the same against a Browns defense that is first in the NFL by DVOA will be an extremely tough challenge, but if he comes through this latest stern test with relatively little difficultly, his MVP chances will only improve.

Will Greenlaw be available?

The 49ers have one question lingering over their starting lineup, and it is the health of linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Greenlaw missed Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury but returned in a limited capacity on Friday, providing hope he could maintain his place on the first-string defense alongside Fred Warner.

However, San Francisco elevated linebacker Curtis Robinson from the practice squad on Saturday in a sign that Greenlaw's hamstring may not have healed to a satisfactory degree. With the 49ers facing a backup quarterback in P.J. Walker, San Francisco may have decided there is little point risking an aggravation of Greenlaw's injury.

3 Players to watch

  • OT Trent Williams: In terms of the game within the game, few matchups this season will inspire more intrigue than All-Pro left tackle Williams going up against Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett. After playing a key role in keeping Micah Parsons quiet, Williams will now look to prevent Garrett from disrupting San Francisco's potent offense.
  • WR Deebo Samuel: The 49ers placed more of an emphasis on using both Samuel and Christian McCaffrey in motion from split back sets last week. Between his influence in putting an aggressive Browns defense on the back foot and his challenge in going against a deep Cleveland secondary, Samuel will have a huge role to play.
  • DE Randy Gregory: Gregory will make his 49ers debut against Cleveland following his trade from the Denver Broncos last week. He'll likely be on a pitch count, but his ability to hit the ground running could take an already fearsome pass rush to even greater heights.
