There's always a lot of talk around San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy these days, and there will be much more in the coming days after he made more history in their Week 14 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Despite being frustrated by the Seahawks defense for long periods of the first half, Purdy made more NFL history on Sunday as the Niners completed a season sweep of the Seahawks with a 28-16 victory to improve to 10-3.

Purdy finished 19 of 27 for 368 yards with two passing touchdowns and an interception with a passer rating of 122.1.

Purdy's historic display

His performance saw Purdy become only the fourth quarterback in NFL history with at least seven straight games with a completion percentage of at least 70 in the same season.

Purdy matched Sam Bradford and Drew Brees (both seven in 2016) in that regard, with the club also including 49ers legend Joe Montana, who owns the NFL record with eight successive such games in the Super Bowl-winning season of 1989.

The final pick in last year's draft also tied his idol. He now has 12 games with a passer rating of 110 or higher, moving him into a tie with his hero, Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino, for the third-most in a quarterback's first two seasons in league history. Ahead of Purdy and Marino are Justin Herbert (13) and Russell Wilson (14).

McCaffrey's perfect answer

For all the noise around Purdy and, recently, his MVP odds, the 49ers' quarterback has an outwardly calm and quiet demeanor, and running back Christian McCaffrey had the perfect quote when asked where the signal-caller has made the biggest strides since coming into the lineup in Week 13 last season.

"He's gotten better every week but he started out so hot," McCaffrey said. "He started out doing things so well and he's been so consistent and I think he's the same guy everyday.

"He's a silent assassin but competitive, he's growing but he's also playing at such a high level all the time. If he just continues to be him, we're in the right spot."

San Francisco's silent assassin continues to find ways to pick apart defenses even when opponents seemingly have a good plan as the Seahawks did for much of the first half.

Whether the MVP talk starts to turn in Purdy's favor remains to be seen. Yet that will be of little interest to him or the 49ers, who are to a man delighted to have a man whose career has been defined by flying under the radar as their quarterback for the present moment and the foreseeable future.
