Christian McCaffrey went into the San Francisco 49ers' Week 10 game with the Jacksonville Jaguars with a chance at history.
The 49ers did everything to try and get him the outright record for the most successive games (regular season and postseason) with a touchdown, McCaffrey having tied the all-time record in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals by scoring for a 17th straight game.
McCaffrey was given the ball on four straight plays from the 10-yard line with the 49ers cruising at 34-3 on their penultimate offensive series, but he could not find the endzone.
A fourth-down throw from backup quarterback Sam Darnold was broken up, meaning McCaffrey stays in a tie with Lenny Moore for the all-time record.
It also means McCaffrey misses out on becoming only the third player in NFL history to score in 15 successive regular-season games.
But McCaffrey was all smiles as Darnold took knees on the final series, with the focus primarily on the 49ers ending a three-game losing streak in utterly emphatic fashion.
49ers rookies rob them of touchdown in strangest possible fashion
It was a confusing sequence.
